In the second Stage of membership as a Voice 21 Oracy School, you will focus on meeting the Oracy School Benchmarks, embedding oracy throughout the curriculum, culture, routines and core approaches of the school.

Stage 2 contains three key elements: Our Oracy Curriculum and Culture Course, consultancy support and online learning modules. These will equip you and your teachers with the expertise, tools and resources to embed a whole school approach to oracy education.

Course

Oracy Curriculum & Culture

Design and implement an oracy curriculum and plan opportunities for oracy across your school. 

 

  • Two development days, as well as online learning and curriculum design tasks.
  • Spaces for two teachers - the Oracy Champions for your school.

Voice 21 Consultancy

Throughout the year you will work with a dedicated Voice 21 consultant who will provide one-to-one, ongoing support, tools and guidance, starting with benchmarking current practice to write your school’s implementation plan.

  • Frequent one-to-one meetings, alongside information sharing and progress reviews conducted remotely.
  • Relationship led by your Voice 21 School Lead

Online learning

Our self-led, online CPD modules are for colleagues across your school. You’ll be able to identify different modules for different members of your team to engage in, or modules for all your teachers to complete. 

Modules include:

  • Impact project module: supporting practitioner led research and implementation
  • An induction to oracy module for staff new to oracy
Course: Oracy Curriculum & Culture 

This Course will enable your team to design and implement an oracy curriculum and plan opportunities for oracy to ensure it is embedded into all aspects of school life.

Your Oracy Champions will explore how to weave oracy into your school’s routines and events, celebrating talk and creating a comprehensive curriculum for oracy as students move through your school.

Your school will have confident Oracy Champions who:

  • Identify and develop opportunities for oracy across the curriculum and throughout the school day.
  • Lead on the design and implementation of a cohesive school-wide curriculum for oracy which plans for student progression
  • Develop oracy teaching and learning within subjects and phase curriculum areas

Your students will benefit from:

  • Improved subject knowledge and understanding across the curriculum

Time: This course includes two development days, as well as online learning and curriculum design tasks.
Course attendees: Spaces for two teachers – the Oracy Champions for your school.

Voice 21 Oracy Consultancy

Throughout the year you will work with a dedicated Voice 21 consultant who will provide one-to-one, ongoing support, tools and guidance, building on the classroom practice developed in Stage 1 to write your school’s implementation plan.

Your Voice 21 Oracy Consultant will provide developmental support such as curriculum design support, learning walks and observations, and guided feedback to establish next steps for your school.

Through this, by the end of this stage your school will have:

  • Identified priorities and developed a strategic plan
  • Sustained oracy practice in every classroom through CPD and curriculum planning.
  • Embedded and codified your whole-school approach to oracy teaching and learning
  • Created opportunities for oracy as part of wider school life, such as oracy assemblies and student-led parents evenings.

Your students will benefit from:

  • Increased confidence to take part in whole school opportunities for oracy, for example, assemblies and whole-school events for oracy

Time: Our consultancy support includes frequent one-to-one meetings, information sharing and progress reviews conducted remotely. You will also benefit from an Oracy Consultancy Day at your school, focused on your school’s priorities.Your school’s progress and plans will be defined and shared in bespoke documents throughout the year, such as your Oracy Benchmarks Report.

Online learning on the Voice 21 Exchange 

The modules you have access to at Stage 2 will deepen areas of practice within your school, including our Impact Project module which uses practitioner-led research to design and implement an approach with a target group of students. You will also have access to a module designed to support new staff induction to oracy alongside modules focused on specific oracy contexts such as debate.

Through this, by the end of this stage your school will have:

  • Practitioners who are using research-based approaches to reflect on the impact of their oracy practice on students.
  • Explored new contexts for oracy such as debate and speechmaking.
  • Equipped all staff, including new members of your team, with the core oracy knowledge they need.
  • Joined and be contributing to specialist networks to support the development of practice

Your students will benefit from:

  • Opportunities to express themselves in new contexts for oracy such as speech-making

Our range of self-led online modules vary in length and can be completed at a time which works for your team. The Voice 21 Exchange is open to anyone in your school who wants to develop their oracy expertise.
