Voice Camden launches

Voice 21, in partnership with a collection of schools in Camden, has launched Voice Camden.

As part of this borough-wide initiative to raise the status of speaking in Camden schools, Voice 21 are working with teachers from 24 schools to help to train a cohort of pioneering Oracy Leaders. Over the coming year, Camden’s Oracy Leaders will receive training from Voice 21 and the Unicorn theatre, observe practice in each others’ schools and begin to implement school-wide strategies to develop oracy.

Christopher Hatton Primary School, Torriano Primary School, William Ellis School and Richard Cobden Primary School, are all participating in the year-long programme that aims to raise the status of Oracy across all the schools and the Borough.

Helen Bruckdorfer, Headteacher of Torriano Primary School said of the training, “This week, we were delighted to welcome 24 Camden schools to the launch day of Camden Voice; a collective of like-minded schools, with a common purpose to improve oracy across the borough and beyond.”

“This exciting partnership was developed with Voice 21 and Camden Learning to grow leadership in the development of oracy. It aims to build partnerships and explicitly teach and promote talk to prepare our pupils not only for their academic growth but also their wider development needs; helping every child to find their voice”

In the past few years a number of Camden schools have worked on the development of oracy and believe that speaking and listening skills are fundamental to success in both learning and life. The impact of this work has already been seen in the inspiring presentations at the Oracy Conference last March and the brilliant input to the Heads’ Conference in June from William Ellis.

“Following the dynamic and expert input from the team at Voice21, the room was buzzing with ideas and contributions” Helen Bruckdorfer reflected, “We departed feeling very excited about the collective potential of the Camden Voice network.”
